After wrapping up our time in Yellowstone, we started making our way north toward Glacier National Park and broke up the drive with a quick overnight stop in Helena at Devils Elbow Campground. I’d read that parking in Glacier National Park can be a mess, and everyone says the trick is to get there early.

Glacier opened with the east side lake views and easy iconic overlooks around St. Mary.
Going-to-the-Sun Road and Avalanche Lake gave the trip its first full west-side forest-and-mountains day.
