Farewell Gilbert Ray Campground

6 / 6
We said goodbye to Gilbert Ray Campground, just outside Saguaro National Park. This Pima County campground gave us big mountain views, quiet desert mornings, and more iconic saguaros than we could count. We even caught some great sunsets right from our site. As we pulled out, the desert sent us off with a parting gift: a saguaro bursting with blooms. We hadn’t seen many flowering yet, so it felt like a small farewell wave.
We were also especially grateful for the electric hookups during the heat wave. Our AC couldn’t fully keep up with the triple digits, but it took the edge off, which made a real difference. All in all, it was a beautiful place to park the trailer and soak in the Sonoran Desert.

From there, we headed north toward Sedona, with Dead Horse Ranch State Park as our next home base. We had a rabbit greet us at our campsite, a quiet little welcome to the next chapter. Still riding the inspiration from our visit to the Mount Lemmon Observatory, we admired the full moon that evening and snapped a few photos.
