We finally got the kayaks out on Fremont Lake, launching right from the campground for a peaceful paddle on the clear mountain water. With the Wind River Range rising in the distance, it was a pretty great place to spend an afternoon. For most of the outing, the lake was calm and easygoing. We paddled along at a relaxed pace, taking in the scenery and enjoying being out on the water.
On the way back, though, Fremont Lake decided to add a little drama. The wind picked up fast, the waves started rolling in, and for a moment I wondered if I had somehow taken a wrong turn into the ocean. One wave even slapped up and soaked me. It was a wetter and more adventurous return than we expected, but it definitely made the paddle more memorable. Fremont Lake gave us both a peaceful afternoon and a quick reminder that mountain lakes can change their mood in a hurry.
