We started the morning back at the CCC Ponds near our campground. After the short stroll the day before, we wandered a bit farther along the trails and made our way to the small dam that helps control the water flowing between the ponds. It was an easy, low key way to spend the morning. After that, we took it easy back at camp for the rest of the day, waiting on the evening’s main event.
That evening we went to Pitchfork Fondue, which was easily the most unique dinner experienc es I've had. Instead of grilling steaks the usual way, they skewer them onto an actual pitchfork and cook them in a large pot of hot oil heated over a wood fire. Watching them bring the pitchfork out and slide the steaks onto waiting plates was half the experience.
The whole thing felt especially fitting in Pinedale, a town so tied to mountain man history and the legacy of the Green River Rendezvous. There was something kind of perfect about having a dinner that leaned so hard into that frontier spirit. Since we were there before the busy season really kicked in, the atmosphere was quiet and relaxed. We ended up chatting with the owner for a while, which made the evening feel even more personal.
Between the setting, the story behind the place, and the sheer novelty of steak cooked on a pitchfork, it was one of those dinners we will probably talk about for a long time.
