Flaming Gorge gave us red canyon views, blue reservoir water, winding geology roads, and a little frontier history. We walked the Red Canyon rim, visited the dam, followed the Green River at Little Hole, and toured historic Swett Ranch. The Sheep Creek Geological Loop added one of the most scenic surprise drives of the stop.

Red Canyon is one of the best areas for seeing Flaming Gorge Reservoir from above. The visitor center overlooks, rim trail, nearby campground, and forest roads provide easy access to the red cliffs and blue water.
The Sheep Creek Geological Loop is a short scenic drive through visibly folded and uplifted rock layers in the Uinta Mountains. Roadside pullouts explain the geology and open onto canyon views.
Flaming Gorge Dam spans the Green River and creates the reservoir above it. Overlooks show the concrete dam, the canyon walls, and the river corridor downstream.
