Dinosaur National Monument was much more than fossils. On the Utah side, we stayed beside the Green River and explored the quarry, desert roads, petroglyphs, and Josie Morris’s remote homestead. The dinosaur bones were impressive, but the mix of geology, river scenery, and human history made the whole area more interesting than we expected.

The Quarry Exhibit Hall protects a wall of exposed dinosaur bones that visitors can examine at close range. The nearby Fossil Discovery Trail connects the quarry area with additional exposed fossils.
Green River Campground provides a shaded base near the quarry, with direct access to the river corridor and a short riverside trail. The water and cottonwoods support deer, beavers, birds, and other wildlife.
The Tour of the Tilted Rocks follows Cub Creek Road past sharply angled rock layers, Green River views, petroglyph pullouts, and historic sites. It is the main route for seeing the Utah side beyond the fossil quarry.
Several short roadside walks lead to Fremont petroglyph panels at Swelter Shelter, McKee Springs, and Cub Creek. The panels include human figures, animals, geometric forms, and Cub Creek's large lizard design.
Josie Bassett Morris lived at this isolated homestead from 1914 until 1964. The preserved cabin, outbuildings, and box-canyon setting show how she raised livestock and lived independently in a remote desert landscape.
