Quick Take

This southeastern Arizona stop started with the wonderfully strange Thing roadside attraction on the way to Kartchner Caverns State Park. From that campground base, Tombstone brought the full Old West spectacle: stagecoaches, saloons, gunfight reenactments, courthouse history, and Boothill Graveyard all packed into one dusty, theatrical day. Before leaving, we went underground with Kartchner's Big Room tour, a carefully protected living cave that traded frontier drama for formations, bats, and deep-time history.

The Thing is a classic I-10 desert curiosity on the way to Kartchner Caverns, leaning hard into aliens, dinosaurs, mystery, gift-shop weirdness, and the kind of roadside hype that makes a travel day more memorable.
