We left Rainier behind and rolled into Silverton, Oregon, where we camped at GeerCrest Farm, booked through Hipcamp. Hipcamp is basically like Airbnb for camping, where you stay on private land instead of a traditional campground.
GeerCrest was established in 1847, and the original apple and pear trees were brought over by seed on the Oregon Trail. The current owner, Jeff, is a direct descendant of the original settlers, which made the place feel even more rooted in Oregon history. Beyond the orchard, the property had sheep grazing in the fields, ducks waddling around, and plenty of songbirds flitting between the trees and fence lines.
After arriving, we spent some time exploring the property and soaking in the peaceful farm setting. One of my favorite parts was the birding. At one point, I set up my camp chair near a field with my camera and just waited for the birds to perch.
With the historic farm, the open fields, and the steady background soundtrack of birds and farm life, GeerCrest was a pretty perfect place to land for a few days.
