Silverton gave us four different Oregon experiences: camping among historic orchards at GeerCrest Farm, touring Frank Lloyd Wright's Gordon House, kayaking the Willamette River, and hiking a waterfall-heavy section of the Trail of Ten Falls at Silver Falls State Park.

GeerCrest Farm is a working historic property established by Oregon Trail settlers in 1847. We camped among old fruit trees, fields, sheep, ducks, and productive bird habitat for the duration of the Silverton stay.
The Gordon House in Silverton is Oregon’s only Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home and one of the few Wright buildings open to the public in the Pacific Northwest. Originally built near Wilsonville for Conrad and Evelyn Gordon, the house was later rescued, moved to the Oregon Garden, and restored. Its low profile, warm wood, concrete block, and broad windows make it a compact but memorable example of Wright’s Usonian style.
We launched at Riverview Park in Independence and paddled a calm section of the Willamette River toward Halls Ferry. The quiet water and wooded banks produced osprey, herons, geese, kingfishers, and an unusually pale turkey vulture.
Silver Falls State Park contains ten major waterfalls along a connected canyon trail system. Our 4.8-mile Winter Falls Loop passed seven falls and went behind South Falls, Lower South Falls, and Middle North Falls.
