On Sunday morning we arose to sweeping views of Lake Powell and sandstone hills beyond it. Wahweap Campground, tucked inside Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, is a big, well-kept marina campground with solid amenities and easy access to both the water and those classic desert views.
It was our first full day in Page, and we declared it a down day. No racing to trailheads. Just a few chores and that perfect early April desert weather. I handled laundry in the campground facilities while Danny tackled the hot water heater valve, a fix made possible by yesterday’s Walmart run. RV life is not always slot canyons and sweeping overlooks. Sometimes it is plumbing parts in aisle 12 and hoping you bought the right size.
We did make one strategic outing to Lone Rock Beach, where we were considering boondocking the next night. With just the Tahoe, we tested the sand to see if we would feel comfortable towing the camper in. We drove slowly through the looser stretches, paying attention to how the tires handled. The scenery was an easy yes, and after a cautious lap or two, the sand earned our approval as well.
By evening, the sky shifted. Thick clouds rolled in and softened the light. Then the sun broke through the clouds right at sunset, lighting up the cliffs in a perfect glow.
It was not a big adventure day. No iconic hikes. Just the quiet work of settling in and making sure we were ready for what came next.
