Danny and I hopped on the Grand Canyon Railway in Williams for a day trip to the Grand Canyon. We first visited the canyon about ten years ago. Back then, we camped inside the park, hiked down the Bright Angel Trail, and bounced between viewpoints. This visit was a totally different experience. The train ride itself took about two hours each way and came with plenty of entertainment.
Once at the canyon, we had about three hours to explore. We picnicked by the rim, rode the park shuttle out for views of the Colorado River (something we somehow missed on our first visit), walked a mile or so along the Rim Trail, and just soaked it all in before heading back to the train. Ten years later, the Grand Canyon is still just as breathtaking. And yes, we did a selfie mash-up from both trips. We’ve aged a little… but the canyon hasn’t.
On the return trip, there was supposed to be a mock train robbery, complete with bandits on horseback. Instead, a real medical emergency on board shifted priorities. The train stopped near a highway so ambulances and emergency crews could reach us. No fake outlaws this time.
After a full day on the train, we headed back to the same boondocking spot we’d stayed at the night before along nearby Garland Prairie Road.
