We took a relaxed day in Moab to catch up on laundry and spend a little time exploring the town itself. The morning started with an unexpected show across the road at Canyonlands Field Airport, where a colorful hot air balloon lifted into the sky with a dramatic desert rain cloud forming in the distance.
Later we headed into downtown Moab to take care of laundry. While the machines were running, we used the downtime to start organizing the growing collection of photos from the trip. It turns out sorting through thousands of pictures takes almost as much effort as taking them. Once the laundry was finished, we grabbed lunch at a nearby food truck park with outdoor seating. It was a great place to sit for a while and watch the steady flow of travelers passing through town on their way to the surrounding parks.
Moab has a fun, artsy character as well. Murals decorate the sides of buildings and creative metal sculptures pop up along the sidewalks, many made from repurposed gears, tools, and scrap metal. Wandering through the streets felt a bit like strolling through an outdoor gallery in the middle of the desert.
We also stopped for ice cream at La Michoacana Artisan. La Michoacana ice cream is known for bold fruit flavors made with real ingredients, and the texture is denser and more intensely flavored than typical American ice cream. I went with mango, and it was delicious. Then Danny casually informed me that there is a La Michoacana shop just up the road from our house back home. Apparently he had been sitting on that information this whole time, which felt like a serious breach of dessert disclosure.
