Why This Stop Matters

Del Rio was a stopover on the way to Big Bend. We passed through Uvalde, stopped at Amistad, and took a guided hike at Seminole Canyon that showed how much history and geology are packed into this stretch of Texas.

Best for

Rock art, blue desert water, and a worthwhile stop on the way to Big Bend.

Trip vibe

Looks like just another canyon until you realize you’re standing in a 4,000-year-old gallery.

What surprised us

Seminole Canyon is home to some of the oldest pictographs in North America

Uvalde, Texas

Uvalde gave us a layered stop. Part small town Texas, part quick taco break, and part quiet moment at the memorial before continuing on.
